Timothy Moorhouse BA Dipl Arch grew up in a village in the north of England and studied architecture at the Leeds School of Architecture in Yorkshire.

After graduating he came to the United States to work for an international children's camp where he met his future wife, Gail.

They married on Mt Lafayette in New Hampshire and then bought a small farm on the coast of Maine where they raised their two sons and continue to live today.

Tim is the principal of Design North, a firm specializing in the design of environmentally-friendly buildings in coastal Maine, including the Hospice Education Institute's new offices in Machiasport. Overseas his design work includes an elementary school in Ladakh (Jammu & Kashmir, India) and Buddhist temple at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery (Bylakuppe, Kamataka, India), seat of the Panchen Lama, and will include an apartment for the Dalai Lama.

After the extensive research that went into the writing of this design manual, Tim has founded the 'Hospice Design Consultancy Service' to assist those planning new in-patient hospice facilities.

In addition to his design skills, Tim is an accomplished carpenter, a private pilot, an avid sailor and outdoorsman, an amateur astronomer and loves to play guitar.
